Air Peace (IATA:P4), a private airline based at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Nigeria, and one of the largest in West Africa, has today, at the Dubai Air Show, signed a firm order for 3 Embraer E195-E2 aircraft. This serves as confirmation for purchase rights on the initial contract signed in April 2019, where the airline signed a firm order for 10 E195-E2 aircraft and purchase rights for a further 20 of the same. The new order is valued at US$212.6 million based on current list prices.
The order will be included in the manufacturer's fourth quarter backlog and serves to further cement Air Peace's position as the first prospective operator of the aircraft type in Africa. Delivery of the first E2 to the airline, in a dual-class configuration with 124 seats, is expected in the second quarter of 2020. The order also marks a first for Embraer, as Air Peace is the launch customer for the manufacturer's staggered seating option in premium class.
According to Air Peace Chairman Mr. Allen Onyema, the choice of the E2 was informed by the positive experience the airline has had with Embraer ERJ145s, primarily operated by the airline's subsidiary, Air Peace Hopper. Coupled with the airline's dominantly domestic and regional operations, the E2 was therefore a front-runner to the intended expansion in its no-city-left-behind initiative. The jets will serve to enhance connectivity in Nigeria and the African region.
