Air Senegal took delivery of its first Airbus A330-900Neo (registration 9H-SZN) earlier this year. The aircraft is leased from HiFly. The aircraft, which had a troublesome start having been temporarily replaced by an Airbus A340 due to unscheduled issues, currently operates on the Dakar to Paris route.

The new aircraft will provide Air Senegal with further capacity, allowing it to open new routes. The delivery comes in time for the new triangle route from Dakar to Marseille and then Barcelona (and back to Dakar) beginning on December 9 operating 4 times a week. The newest member of the Air Senegal fleet is fitted with Rolls Royce's Trent 7000 engines.

Air Senegal is growing rapidly, after having signed a Memorandum of Understanding for 8 Airbus A220s back at the Dubai Air Show earlier this year. The airline replaced the now bankrupt Senegal Airlines. Senegal Airlines was so highly in debt (about 100 billion francs) that at the time of bankruptcy, it no longer had any aircraft in service. The airline was shut down just five years after beginning operations.

Air Senegal's growth is unprecedented and many expect the carrier to become a leader within the African aviation industry in the coming years.
