Thanks to the lifting of travel restrictions throughout the Australian state of Queensland, a new route between the state capital of Brisbane and ever-popular holiday destination of the Whitsunday Coast (Proserpine) was today announced by Alliance Airlines, who will begin the new flights on the 22nd June.
Alliance Airlines has a long history in Australia, both as a charter and scheduled airline, and over the past few years has expanded rapidly to service every state and territory in Australia through charter, scheduled or VIP flying. The airline was formed in 2002 from the assets of defunct Flight West Airlines, which ceased operations in 2001. Alliance started operations with just two Dutch-made Fokker 100 aircraft servicing the mining industry with charter work. Today, the Brisbane-based airline operates a total of 50 aircraft; comprising five Fokker 50's, sixteen ultra-rare Fokker 70's and twenty nine Fokker 100's. The airline is today the largest Fokker aircraft operator in the world and in 2016 picked up its largest contract yet, a recently renewed two-year contract to fly several routes throughout Australia and the Pacific on behalf of Virgin Australia using Fokker 70 and Fokker 100 jets. Because of its focus on charter work and high level of flexibility, the airline is a better position than most to outstep the effects of coronavirus.
So today, the airline made the next step towards developing its future route network by announcing the launch of a new route between the Queensland capital of Brisbane and the popular holiday maker paradise of the Whitsunday Coast (Proserpine), which has suffered hugely during the recent coronavirus lockdown. The new route will begin on the 22nd June, initially four times a week using Fokker 70 and 100 aircraft, an ideal chance for airline and aviation enthusiasts alike to experience these increasingly rare aircraft. However, the option exists to upgrade to daily flights if the demand grows as expected.
The new route will be operated under a Queensland government subsidy, which was created as part of an initiative to kickstart the tourism industry after the coronavirus lockdown. According to Alliance Airlines CEO Lee Schofield, the airline is delighted to be partnering with Whitsunday Coast Airport to make these flights a reality. "With current travel restrictions easing we look forward to working with WCA to welcome many visitors to the Whitsunday region on our flights. Alliance Airlines are proud to be playing this important role in reawakening tourism in this beautiful part of Queensland."
The new route adds to Alliance's existing Queensland network; the airline also operates flights between Brisbane and Bundaberg, Gladstone, Rockhampton and Cloncurry on behalf of Virgin Australia.
