Boeing’s newest and most ambitious project of revamping the already popular 777 family has taken to the skies and successfully completed its first ever flight, on January 25, 2020.
"It's a proud day for us," said the chief executive of Boeing's commercial airplane unit, Stan Deal.
The flight left Everett and conducted tests near Seattle for 4 hours before landing at Seattle Boeing Field airport.
At 252 feet, the 777X is the longest commercial aircraft on the market and will enter service with Emirates in 2021. The plane’s list price stands at US$422.2 million, although in reality, price will vary because of discounts airlines receive from Boeing.
Boeing has 309 firm orders for aircraft part of the 777X series, with Emirates being the single largest customer for the type.
The newest addition to Boeing’s product line, the 777X, is a larger and more efficient variant of the already popular and loved 777 family. The aircraft includes standout features like folding wingtips and the world’s largest engine by fan diameter – GE9X.
