Boeing has confirmed that it will suspend production of the iconic 747 in 2022.

“While our 767 and 747 rates remain unchanged, in light of the current market dynamics and outlook, we’ll complete production of the iconic 747 in 2022,” Boeing President and CEO, Dave Calhoun said.
The announcement came as the company reported its second quarter results. The manufacturer said it had a net loss $-2.395bln.
The company is also considering a consolidation of Boeing 787 production, in either Seattle or North Charleston.
Calhoun warned: “Regretfully, the prolonged impact of COVID-19 causing further reductions in our production rates and lower demand for commercial services means we’ll have to further assess the size of our workforce.”
Boeing adds that it plans to boost production of the Boeing 737 MAX to 31 per month as of 2022. Meanwhile, the Boeing 787’s production will drop from 7 to 6 per month in 2021.
In related news, lessor AerCap has confirmed that it has removed 15 Boeing 737 MAXs from its order book. Therefore in total, the leasing giant expects to take 80 737 MAX planes.
Finally, Boeing confirmed our report earlier this week delaying the entry-into-service of its latest widebody jet. It said that it now expects to delivery its first 777X in 2022.
