Boeing Considering 787 Production Cuts

US-based aircraft manufacturer Boeing is reportedly considering a cut to its 787 production line. While simultaneously managing the 737 MAX crisis and grounding as well as the 777X’s first flight, Boeing is under a lot of pressure.

Boeing says that it has seen a decrease in demand for wide-body aircraft, which comes as no surprise following the highly successful launch of Airbus’ A321Neo longer range variants (including the A321LR and A321XLR).

As such, the American manufacturer confirms that it is looking to reduce 787 production from the current 14 per month down to about 11 or 10 per month. Originally, Boeing planned to reduce 787 production to 12 per month effective later this year.

The news comes as Boeing continues to re-establish both the technology and reputation of the troubled 737 MAX which is currently grounded worldwide. This grounding has lasted since March 2019, following two major accidents involving the aircraft type, killing more than 300 people.
