Sweden’s Braathens Regional Airways (BRA) has applied for reorganisation, the company says and aims to return to normal operations by the summer’s end.
Citing the coronavirus, Braathens Regional Airways has filed for corporate restructuring. The airline said it “deeply regret“ any inconveniences caused by this on customers.
BRA had already suspended operations on 1 April until 31 May, a date which has now been extended to at least summer’s end. The carrier had joined other Swedish aviation companies in urging the government to take action to reduce the financial burden of the coronavirus on aviation. However, the government has yet to react.
“After careful consideration, the company's board of directors chooses to apply for reconstruction and freeze the business completely. This will give us room to develop a long-term sustainable business plan. I deeply regret how this affects employees and customers,” explained Geir Stormorken, CEO of BRA.
In its press release, BRA noted its achievements over the past 12 months which included its continuous investment in new aircraft, the subsequent removal of older planes and its commitment to the environment.
BRA has approximately 600 employees.
