British Airways was expecting to take delivery of its first ever Airbus A350-1000 earlier today (July 26). However, the first aircraft, registered G-XWBA, did not even leave the ground at Toulouse.
As press began arriving to the media event at midday today, staff announced the aircraft would not being arriving into Heathrow and therefore the official unveiling would not be happening.
This came after weather conditions over the past week caused disruption at London Heathrow as well as other airports around Europe and England. Additionally, technical issues involving the Air Traffic Control towers at both Gatwick and Heathrow influenced the decision. Fortunately, disruption is slowly being recovered.
British Airways apologised, adding that they were very ‘disappointed’ and as a result of the very ‘difficult position’ the carrier was in, they were forced to cancel the event.
British Airways said: “Our customers have to be our number one priority and we couldn’t justify bringing a new aircraft in for delivery ahead of them”.
The carrier has rescheduled the event for later next week, with no confirmed date selected as of yet. However, Monday 29 July is currently being studied.
While the delivery event will take place next week, the aircraft will be delivered this weekend, the airline says, direct from Toulouse.
