Dubai International Airport (DXB) is currently experiencing significant disruption after heavy rainfall continues to limit operations.
The airport, which is one of the busiest in the Middle East, has been affected by flooding. Dubai’s Media Office describes the heavy rainfall as “unusual” and that there are “water ponds” throughout the Emirate affecting transportation.
The disruption is expected to continue through the next 24 hours. Emirates Airline, based at Dubai Airport, is the most affected airline followed by flydubai.
“Heavy rainfall has caused disruptions to several flights departing from or arriving at @DXB today. Customers are requested to check their flight status on emirates.com/flightstatus for the latest information regarding their flights. We apologize for any inconvenience,” Emirates tweeted.
The airport operator, Dubai Airports, advised passengers to travel to the airport by metro.
According to Indian media, an Air India aircraft from Chennai to Dubai had to wait 5 hours before it could taxi to its gate as a result of the flooding. The Indian flag carrier has cancelled four of its flights tomorrow to Dubai.
Meanwhile, most Emirates flights have been delayed by about 3 hours or more. Some have also been cancelled.
