A Nigerian court has ordered the seizure of an Emirates 777 to enforce a judgment in an earlier lawsuit of a Nigerian passenger for $22000. Emirates currently has two daily flights from Dubai to Lagos, and they appear to still be operating. The Nigerian court has also ordered that Emirates maintains the plane while it is seized.
This incident was caused due to a 2007 lawsuit after a passenger was denied boarding on a flight from Dallas to Lagos via Dubai on an Emirates aircraft.
The passenger claimed that the airline caused her stress having to rebook the flight. Since then, the case has continued to be fought, and the legal costs have turned a $3200 ticket to a $22000 lawsuit. Because the cost for the airline is only $22000, it is likely that Emirates will continue flights and simply pay off the debt. More updates will come as the case continues.
