EVA Air Flight Attendants Strike - Hundreds Of Flights Cancelled In Taiwan

A flight attendant strike in Taiwan's EVA Airways has caused over 100 flights to be cancelled. The airline has already cancelled 852 flights over 8 days for June 2018. Flights between Taiwan and Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, London, New York are among the affected services.

In Singapore, EVA Airways flight 225 arrived at Changi Airport from Taipei at 12:17pm (GMT +08:00) on Monday. However, two other flights BR125 scheduled to arrive at 1:50pm and BR216 which was scheduled to depart at 3:10pm were both cancelled.

The strike was organised by Taoyuan Flight Attendants Union as the flight attendants were demanding higher pay and better working conditions. Over 2000 members of staff were involved in the strike.

The cancellation of flights has caused the airline NT$580 million of lost revenue. EVA Airways shares have dropped 4.5% since the close of trading on Thursday.

This strike is the second in Taiwan. Staff of the Taiwanese Carrier, China Airlines, Taiwan's largest carrier, took action in February, stopping work for seven days.
