The Emirates Group’s new 2018-19 annual report shows 234 upcoming aircraft deliveries. However, it makes no mention of the 40 Boeing 787-10s that Emirates ordered in 2017. These 234 aircraft consist of 40 Airbus A330-900neos, 30 A350-900s, 14 A380s and 150 Boeing 777X aircraft. However, no where in the annual report does the carrier mention the Boeing 787 model.
The airline announced the US $15 billion agreement for the Dreamliners at the 2017 Dubai Air Show, stating that the aircraft would be delivered in 2022. However, the airline still has not made an engine selection for the 787s and they are not mentioned on Boeing’s order backlog.
Emirates had listed the 40 aircraft in its 2017-18 annual report, showing them as “authorised and not contracted.” This order was among a further 262 future deliveries including, 150 Boeing 777Xs, 12 remaining 777-300ERs and 60 Airbus A380s.
“We have been reviewing our fleet mix options for some time now, so converting some of our A380 orders into A330neos and A350s gives us the required flexibility.”
Emirates president Tim Clark mentions the A330neo, A350 and A380 in the 2018-19 annual report, meaning the Boeing 787-10 order has likely been cancelled. While the airline is not moving fully towards the French manufacturer, Boeing has clearly lost out.
