The latest aircraft, registered HB-AZE, is the carrier’s fifth Embraer E190-E2. Helvetic Airways took delivery of its fourth Embraer E190-E2 just a couple of days ago.
Embraer and Helvetic Airways have agreed to postpone future deliveries of the carrier’s Embraer E2s in light of the coronavirus crisis.
Helvetic Airways took delivery of its first Embraer E190-E2 late last year. The carrier’s CEO, Tobias Pogorevc, described the type as the “modern and environmentally friendly aircraft we need to continue our development.”
Helvetic Airways says that the Embraer E190-E2 offers a 48% reduction in noise levels compared to the E190-E1. It also offers 90% more room for cabin baggage (notably due to an increase in overhead bin size), a 3,600t decrease in CO2 emissions (per aircraft, per year) brought through a 17.3% reduction in fuel burn.
Worldwide, Embraer’s largest E-Jet operator is SkyWest Airlines in the United States which had a fleet of 156 examples at the end of last year. However, in addition to its existing near-100 strong fleet, Republic Airways has orders for more than 200 E175s.
Helvetic Airways will become the largest E190-E2 operator worldwide when it takes delivery of all 12 airframes it ordered. Air Astana has prevented Helvetic from gaining the title, with 5 E190-E2s in service.
