IndiGo, India’s largest airline’s (in terms of passenger capacity) has recently been pushing to return to profitability. The airline has entered into the charter business, according to information available on its official website and plans to offer both its Airbus A320 and ATR fleet for charter.
To book this, a form needs to be filled in, with information such as the number of passengers expected to fly on that charter flight, departure and arrival city (it is offering this service for both domestic and international destinations) and time. After this, an airline representative will get in touch with the customer (within 24 hours) and will relay further information, it says.
IndiGo had recently converted 10 passenger aircraft into freighters which would allow it to carry more cargo in the cabin. The airline also recently announced that it plans to continue adding aircraft to its fleet despite these uncertain conditions in which demand has fallen drastically.
IndiGo is the largest customer for the Airbus A320neo and plans to return all 120 of its older A320ceo planes to lessors in the next two years.
Chief Executive Officer, Ronojoy Dutta, said the following in a conference call with analysts and investors after the carrier reported fourth-quarter results on Tuesday: “Almost all or close to all” of those aircraft will be replaced by new jets, Dutta said, without giving a time frame for that to happen. We are in active discussions with Airbus — we will take a large number, it will all depend on the revenue picture and the pricing we get and so forth, but we will take a large number.”
