Kenya's Jambojet, a regional low-cost carrier with a fleet of Bombardier Dash 8 Q400s, has been granted permission by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) to pursue further growth at Mombasa's Moi International Airport with secondary base status.

The latest announcement comes as welcome news to all parties involved, including the Kenyan aviation industry which has, like most countries, hit very hard by the coronavirus pandemic.
The news allows Jambojet to grow its international and domestic operation from Mombasa. In fact, the carrier was granted 10 international sectors as well as 5 domestic. This is in addition to a slight boost in Nairobi-originated flights to various destinations.
The sectors included internationally comprise flights from Mombasa to:
Kigali
Entebbe/Kampala
Addis Ababa
Zanzibar
Dar Es Salaam
Dar Es Salaam via Zanzibar
Zanzibar via Dar Es Salaam
Moroni
Dzaoudzi via Moroni
Moroni via Dzaoudzi
All services originate and terminate at Mombasa. Similarly, the domestic sectors granted to and from Mombasa span as follows:
Lamu via Kisumu, Eldoret and Malindi
Eldoret via Kisumu
Kisumu via Eldoret
Lamu via Malindi
Malindi via Lamu
As a result of the coronavirus crisis, when the carrier will launch its Mombasa base remains uncertain.
In other news, in mid-July, Jambojet launched a Progressive Web App (PWA) available on Android and iOS. The app will enable passengers to book flights, check in and access their boarding pass on their smartphones. This comes as the airline attempts to further digitalise its operation. It also allows the carrier to limit physical contact/touch points at the airport which is especially important thanks to the coronavirus crisis.
Jambojet currently operates a fleet of 6 Bombardier DHC-8-400 aircraft mainly from its Nairobi hub.
