It has been nearly a year and a half since Mexican authorities decided to put up for sale what served as the nation’s presidential aircraft. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner formed part of the Mexican Air Force and was officially known as Jose Ma. Morelos y Pavón (registered FAM 3523 / XC-MEX / TP-01). In December 2018, the aircraft flew to the manufacturer’s logistics airport at Victorville, California in what was the "last ever" flight carried out by Mexican officials; all of the aforementioned under the sole purpose of finding a new owner.

Since its arrival, the airplane had been on the ground; faced with a lack of interest. The failure in consolidating any promising negotiations with a new owner and ultimately finding a new solution, has meant that it´s been requested to be taken back home as soon as possible. Given its long period of inactivity, members of the Mexican Air Force arrived at California in what had been a long period of daily checks and steps towards assuring the correct operational functioning and airworthiness of the aircraft.
TP-01 finally flew for the first time on 7 May in what was a successful flight that tested and verified the correct functionality of the plane. According to FlightRadar24, Jose Ma. Morelos y Pavón took off at 9:32 a.m. (UTC-7) and established itself at different flight levels while performing several maneuvers. It will be no coincidence that in a couple more weeks, after a long period of uncertainty, the aircraft finds its way back home.
