Canada’s Nolinor Aviation has announced it will launch a brand new airline named OWG which will operate to “tropical” destinations.

The carrier will use a fleet of Boeing 737-400 aircraft with 158 seats to operate routes from Quebec to “Southern destinations” the airline said in a press release. As for COVID-19, the airline says it will take advantage of Nolinor Aviation's expertise. The latter had maintained a select number of vital connections to Northern destinations throughout the pandemic.
"The flight portion of your trip should be an integral part of your vacation. Traditional airlines have chosen to cut the quality of their services year after year with no regard for the passenger experience. Our goal is to win the hearts of Quebecers with a new airline whose mission is to get travellers excited again," said OWG President, Marco Prud’homme.
The launch of OWG comes during what is described as one of the worst crises in aviation history. The International Air Transport Association estimates losses this year to total approximately USD84 billion. The aviation industry will continue to struggle throughout 2021 as well, the organisation says, predicting nearly USD16 billion worth of losses.
OWG will begin operations with 3 Boeing 737-400 aircraft, the carrier confirms to AeroNewsX. The three aircraft will be owned by Nolinor Aviation, as OWG will be added to the former's certificate.
Despite that, OWG has gone ahead with its launch, having received the green light on 6 July from the Minister of Transport to launch regular international flight operations.
Preparations to launch OWG began in 2018 with, according to the airline, an investment of USD1 million. The carrier's business model is based on the values and missions of some of the best airlines in the world, it said in a press release.
