This May, Philippine Airlines (PAL) will add two new routes to its United States network with the addition of Seattle from Manila and the revival of the Cebu to Los Angeles route, just in time for the summer.
The airline will operate between Manila Ninoy-Aquino and Seattle-Tacoma using their fleet of Airbus A350-900s, while the Cebu Mactan to Los Angeles International service will be operated by their Boeing 777-300ERs, both of which will operate thrice weekly.
This represents PAL’s most significant move in the US since the launch of its nonstop service to New York in 2018. Seattle and nearby towns and municipalities are home to a growing Filipino community of around 100,000 people, according to a 2010 population survey, so this expansion is a beneficial move to the airline.
PAL suspended its Cebu to LAX service in 2017 after a year of unprofitable operations. However, North America has historically been a healthy business for the carrier. Flights to Canada and the US accounted for approximately 28 percent of the airline’s revenue in 2018, making North America the second biggest contributor after Asia and Australia, according to PAL Holding’s annual report.
Other than Seattle, New York, and Los Angeles, Philippine Airlines flies to Guam, Honolulu, San Francisco, Vancouver, and Toronto.
