Australian carrier Qantas has announced that it has notified aerospace giants Airbus and Boeing that it will not take up deliveries in the foreseeable future as a result of the ongoing pandemic.

This comes after the airline stated that it will postpone the purchase of Airbus A350 aircraft for the ambitious Project Sunrise.
The Sydney-based airline was expected to add 3 Boeing 787-9 aircraft and a few of the 18 Airbus A321neos by the end of this year. However, due to the current situation that has led to many airlines around the world to ground their fleet as a result of a drop in demand, it makes sense that this process would be delayed.
The airline is re-evaluating it's fleet and expansion plans on the assumption that international travel could take some time to recover.
In a statement to Reuters, a Qantas spokesman reiterated that there was no indication or timeline on when the jets would be delivered to Qantas citing the current unstable industry.
Qantas has already borrowed A$550 million in funds to counter the fallout from the current crisis.
The majority of its staff remain stood down as the airline continues to operate with limited capacity on its network.
