Seoul Incheon Becomes 5th Largest Airport Out Of Top 20 Biggest Airports Worldwide

Seoul Incheon International has confirmed that it has become the 5th largest airport out of the top 20 airports by the number of passengers that have used the airport last year.

The new announcement comes as an improvement from the 7th spot that it held last year for the passenger numbers in 2017. Last year, the airport saw 67.68 million passengers use its facility which is an increase of 10% from 2017 winning it 5th place.

By 2023, the completion date for a new runway and the expansion of its second terminal, the airport expects to be handling enough passengers to earn it third place. Incheon Airport added that its goal now, is to get to the 100 million passengers mark.


Chung Il-young, the airport corporation’s CEO said: “From now on, Incheon Airport will grow to become a hub airport not only for Northeast Asia but for the world.”


Korean Air and Asiana Airlines, the two biggest players in the Korean aviation market, have had a key role in the airport's growth over the past few years.
