Singaporean flag carrier, Singapore Airlines has announced its intention to launch flights to Brussels next year with its state-of-the-art Airbus A350-900.
Connecting Singapore to the Belgian capital, Brussels, the new flights will strengthen both the economic and political relationship between the two countries. Additionally, the new route "opens the door to a new inspiring destination for leisure travellers and to the whole of Southeast Asia and the Pacific," says Brussels Airport in their press release.
The new route will launch on October 25, 2020. An Airbus A350-900 will operate the flight four times a week.
Arnaud Feist, CEO of Brussels Airport Company says: “We are delighted to welcome Singapore Airlines to Brussels Airport. Singapore Airlines is a world class premium carrier renowned for its excellent passenger service. As a key gateway to Asia, Singapore is an important new destination in our growing Asian network. We are pleased that the flights will be operated with the Airbus A350, the most energy-efficient and silent aircraft of its kind.”
Brussels Airport is slowly expanding its network in Asia, which has proven difficult following Brussels Airlines' termination of its Mumbai route, its one and only connection to Asia. The airline has focused on its African network. The continent is the carrier's "second home," a Brussels Airlines spokesperson tells AeroNewsX.
However, Brussels Airport has been able to attract a number of airlines, including Hainan Airlines (providing links to Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen), All Nippon Airways (providing links to Tokyo), Cathay Pacific (linking Brussels to Hong Kong) and Thai Airways (linking Brussels to Bangkok).
The new service will further strengthen relations between the two countries and will add to Brussels Airport's list of connections to Asia. Brussels Airport says that approximately 44,000 passengers travelled between Brussels and Singapore last year.
