South African Airways (SAA) is in the process of cancelling certain domestic services between Johannesburg Oliver Tambo Int’l (JNB) and Cape Town (CPT) as well as Durban King Shaka Int’l (DUR), and international services between Johannesburg and Munich (MUC).
The airline is liaising with its subsidiary airline, Mango, to re-book affected passengers on different flights operated by both carriers to minimise disruptions, hence ensuring that they reach their destinations as quickly as possible.
The following domestic services have been cancelled:

On their international network, SAA will re-book affected passengers on its services between Johannesburg (JNB) and Frankfurt (FRA) as well as London Heathrow (LHR). Passengers travelling to Munich (MUC) or via Munich to other destinations, will be re-booked for part of their trip on flights with Star Alliance partner airlines, of which SAA is a member airline.

The decision to cancel these services is in line with South African Airways’ policy of reviewing services and cancelling flights with low demand, saving money and optimising the carrier’s financial position before any further capital investments. The cancellation of the Cape Town services is also needed as the airline has been operating training flights for pilots on this route using their new Airbus A350-900 aircraft, before transferring the state-of-the-art planes to international routes.
South African Airways will continue reviewing possible flight cancellations over the next few days. Any operational changes will be communicated with their travel partners and customers and passengers will be re-accommodated on other airlines wherever possible.
