A SpiceJet trainee technician was crushed just after midnight on Wednesday 10 July, by an aircraft's landing gear doors while conducting maintenance work.
Rohit Pandey, a SpiceJet trainee technician was performing maintenance work on the landing gear of a Bombardier Dash 8-Q400. A SpiceJet spokesperson said "Inadvertently, the main landing gear hydraulic door closed and he got stuck in between the hydraulic door flaps."
The hydraulic doors were pried open to rescue Rohit Pandey but was declared dead after the doors were broken.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is still investigating the cause of the accident.
Despite this, SpiceJet has a good safety record. However, in recent days, SpiceJet made headlines when one of their flights overshot a runway.
