After more than two years of planning, Starlux Airlines launched three inaugural flights on the 23 January, 2020 from Taipei to Penang, Macau and Da Nang. They launched flights just in time for the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday where the airline is expecting more passengers to travel. However the return flight from Penang to Taiwan was only 30% occupied.

"Finally, Starlux officially launched today and is able to welcome passengers aboard to experience the meticulous service we've been curating for almost three years. I would like to give credits to my whole team and all the supervisors, and related departments. As a brand-new carrier, we will fulfil our responsibilities to provide safe and high-quality service. At the same time, we will make every effort to make the airline industry in Taiwan better together with our government and other airlines," said Starlux Chairman Chang Kuo Wei.

The passengers and airline were greeted by Penang's Tourism, Arts, Culture and Heritage exco Yeoh Soon Hin, Starlux CEO Glenn Chai and Malaysia Airport Holdings BHD General Manager Mohamad Sallauddin Mohamad Shah.

What made this occasion even more special is that Chairman Chang personally took the role as a pilot for the inaugural flight from Taipei to Macau and back, JX203 and JX204. Chairman Chang is a passionate pilot and took the opportunity to also fly the airline first three Airbus A321neo to be delivered to Starlux from Hamburg back to Taipei.

Starlux will continue to operate flights from Taipei to Macau, Da Nang and Penang using their Airbus A321neo. The airline plans to operate flights to Cebu, The Philippines in April 2020, and gradually start operating trans-oceanic routes to North America in 2022.
