Thai Airways to Lease Aircraft as Part of Turnaround Plan

The flag carrier of Thailand, Thai Airways, is considering leasing up to 38 aircraft according to local media.

With a budget of 156 billion baht, the carrier hopes to lease up to 38 aircraft which would serve as both replacements for it's current fleet as well as for further growth.


By the end of next year, Thai Airways plans to retire 17 aircraft from service out of the 82 currently in its fleet.

Thai Airways is also searching for an aircraft leasing option that includes crew.


Things haven't been easy recently for Thai Airways. It reported a net loss of around 11 billion baht for the first nine months of 2019.

The airline has a fleet of 82 aircraft consisting of 15 Airbus A330s, 12 Airbus A350 XWB aircraft, 6 Airbus A380s, 9 Boeing 747s, 32 Boeing 777s and finally 8 Boeing 787s. Its oldest aircraft are the Boeing 747s and 777s.
