Coming as a major milestone for Brussels Airport, Air France-KLM Group-owned Transavia, has announced 9 new routes from the Belgian capital.
Low cost carrier Transavia has unveiled its first ever scheduled routes from Brussels Airport, to popular holiday destinations around Europe.
Brussels Airport, which has a limited number of low-cost airlines to choose from, will now have Transavia connections to Agadir, Alicante, Corfu, Faro, Heraklion, Ibiza, Tel Aviv, Thessaloniki and Verona.
Flights to Agadir begin on 30 March, 2020 (twice weekly) as well as flights to Faro (four times a week) and Alicante (five times weekly). A day later, the Tel Aviv route will inaugurate, operating 3 times a week. On April 2, 2020, Transavia will launch the Thessaloniki and Verona services, both operating 3 times a week. The day after, the budget airlines will begin service to Ibiza (four weekly) and Heraklion on April 4 (twice weekly). Finally on the 18 April, 2020, the carrier will begin flights to Corfu (twice weekly).
All of these destinations have existing connections with either Brussels Airlines and/or Tui Fly Belgium and/or Ryanair.
Ryanair and Easyjet, the two major budget airlines at Brussels Airport don't have a very big network from the main airport. Easyjet operates to Berlin, Geneva, Basel, Nice and Bordeaux. Ryanair on the other hand, flies to 22 destinations from Brussels. With only Brussels Airlines (and sometimes TUI) as competition, Ryanair gains a healthy market share on most of these routes. Could this all be about to change?
