Turkish Airlines has announced that they are expecting to take deliveries of fewer Airbus A321neos in 2020 while introducing additional Boeing 737-800s into their fleet.
The expansion plans were revealed in the company's third-quarter financial results summary. Turkish Airlines is now planning to take delivery of 30 Airbus A321neos in 2020 -- nine less than what Turkish Airlines initially anticipated. However, Turkish Airlines has also revised its plans for the Boeing 737--800, bringing the total number of deliveries by the end of 2021 to 88 from the previous 75.
Turkish Airlines also has plans to retire two Boeing 737-800s upon the delivery of the additional aircraft. The retirement will occur in 2023.
The airline will also introduce 38 Boeing 737 MAX 8s and 10 Boeing 737 MAX 9s by end of 2020 with an additional 15 Boeing 737 MAX 8s to be delivered in 2021. So far the carrier has 11 Boeing 737 MAX 8a in their fleet, delivered before the global grounding of the Boeing 737 MAX in early 2019 following the crash of Ethiopian Airlines flight 302.
Besides their plans for their short-haul fleet, the carrier also revealed plans to cease wet-leasing cargo aircraft from 2020 onwards. Turkish Airlines currently wet-lease one Boeing 747-400(F) from AirACT, one Boeing 747-400(F) from Kalitta Air, and three Airbus A310-300(F)s from ULS Airlines Cargo.
