Vistara plans to begin long-haul flights in August

TATA and Singapore Airlines joint-venture Vistara will soon start its long-awaited routes to Europe with their Boeing 787-9 aircraft. Vistara received its first 787 back in March 2020 and is set to receive the second in early August.

The airline will initially start operating to London early next month, scheduled flights planned to Paris and Frankfurt will follow soon. News website Business Insider reports that Vistara has filed for slots at Delhi to operate these flights. Long haul scheduled flights to these destinations will operate as part of the travel bubbles of the Government of India.

A source told the Business Insider, "Vistara has around 20 pilots for its 787 operations, each with over 500-600 hours of flying experience on the aircraft. A few more pilots are undergoing training and this would allow the airline to operate both the planes to Europe by September."

Vistara had planned to begin long haul flights to London, Moscow, and Tokyo, before the COVID-19 pandemic; the plan, however, had to take a backseat for obvious reasons. The airline considers this to be a good time to begin long haul flights and help bring back Indians from abroad.

"Updates with regards to international operations will be provided at an appropriate time," Vistara said in an email.

Vistara currently operates 42 aircraft after recently inducting its first Airbus A321neo into the fleet on July 24th, 2020.

In other news from India, low-cost carrier SpiceJet has leased an Airbus A330-900neo from Portuguese leasing company HiFly and will operate with it, a repatriation flight from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS/EHAM) to Hyderabad International Airport (HYD/VOHS) via Bengaluru Kempegowda International Airport (BLR/VOBL). The flight will depart Amsterdam on August 1st, 2020 and will reach both Hyderabad and Bengaluru the next day.
