Volga-Dnepr has filed a lawsuit against aircraft manufacturer Boeing in regards to aircraft orders for 747-8Fs and 777Fs.
Volga-Dnepr is one of two remaining customers for the Boeing 747 which is slowly being retired from passenger service across airlines around the globe.
Volga-Dnepr’s complaint states that Boeing was searching ”to sell them [its aircraft orders] to another buyer instead, while at the same time wrongfully retaining tens of millions of dollars that plaintiff has already paid to Boeing.”
Volga-Dnepr says it has already paid Boeing more than US$146 million out of its order valued at over US$600 million at standard prices.
The Russian airline has one Boeing 747-8F on order as well as 3 Boeing 777Fs.
However, there’s a twist. In January, Volga-Dnepr told Boeing that it couldn’t pay for the jets it had on order.
On 13 April, however, the airline withdrew its January claim and said it was ready to take delivery of one 747-8F. Similarly, on 1 May, it said it was prepared to take on 3 Boeing 777Fs.
Originally, Volga-Dnepr had orders for 4 Boeing 747-8Fs, all of which were removed from the Boeing backlog in March.
